| Michelangelo's eternal resting place in the Santa Croce church, Florence |

Santa Croce is Florence's most majestic church. Inside the church is the
burial site of Michelangelo, built by Giorgio Vasari. The tomb is
placed close to the church's entrance at Michelangelo's personal
request. The reason for its location, so the story goes, is that the
artist, wished to see the dome of Florence's cathedral as his first
waking sight on rising from his tomb on the Day of Judgement. |
