| Statue of Michelangelo in Uffizi Gallery, Florence |
| |
|
Michelangelo (1475-1564) was born in eastern Tuscany,
a painter, sculptor, architect, and poet who spent the early
part of his career in Florence, where he completed the statue of "David"
and the funerary monuments of the Cappelle Medicee. His greatest
works, however, the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, were
reserved for Rome. |
